Position: Robotic Laser Wire DED (Direct Energy Deposition) Application Engineer

Overview:

As a Robotic Laser Wire DED Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and optimization of laser wire DED processes within robotic systems. Your expertise will be instrumental in advancing manufacturing capabilities, particularly in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and heavy machinery.

Job Location: Palm City, Florida

Responsibilities:

  • Process Development: Collaborate with R&D teams to design and develop laser wire DED processes tailored to specific application requirements.
  • Robotic Integration: Integrate laser wire DED systems with robotic platforms, ensuring seamless operation and compatibility with existing manufacturing processes.
  • Parameter Optimization: Conduct thorough experimentation to optimize laser parameters, including power, feed rate, and laser focus, to achieve desired material deposition characteristics.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure consistency and repeatability of fabricated components, utilizing techniques such as in-process monitoring and non-destructive testing.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues related to laser wire DED processes, robotic integration, and equipment performance, implementing timely solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of process parameters, experimental results, and troubleshooting procedures, facilitating knowledge transfer and continuous improvement.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to production teams and end-users, enabling them to operate laser wire DED systems effectively and troubleshoot common issues independently.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of advancements in laser technology, robotic automation, and additive manufacturing techniques, proposing and implementing enhancements to optimize process efficiency and product quality.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations governing laser operations and industrial automation, promoting a culture of safety within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in laser processing, preferably in laser wire DED or similar additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for robotic programming and path planning.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to optimize process parameters.
  • Experience with robotic systems and automation technologies, including robotic programming and integration.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with industrial laser systems, including fiber lasers, CO2 lasers, and Nd:YAG lasers.
  • Familiarity with materials commonly used in laser wire DED, such as metals and alloys.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing concepts, such as Industry 4.0 and digital twin technology.
  • Experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams.
